Prizes

A sport's presentation was held last week to honour the All-Ireland Primary School Girls Olympic Handball Champions from Saint Joseph's Mercy Primary School, Navan. This marked the end of a very successful season for the team who qualified for the All-Ireland by winning the Meath Championship. The All-Irelands were held in Maynooth where they defeated teams from Sligo and Galway to qualify for the final. Kildare were their opponents in the Final and the Meath girls ran out easy winners to bring home the title home for the first time to their school.

With the team at the presentation are Ruairi Murphy, Meath Sports Partnership, Conall Collier, Meath Olympic Handball Association, and the team coach Anna Flanagan.

All-Ireland Finals

The girls from St. Joseph's had a tough road qualifying for the All-Ireland finals. In the Meath championship they beat St. Mary's Trim, St. Anne's Navan and Gilson N.S. Oldcastle before meeting Kentstown in the final. As defending champions, Kentstown provided tough opposition but St. Joseph's played superbly as a team and emerged victorious (5-3).

Then as County Champions the girls made their way to Maynooth to play in the All-Ireland finals. There they beat Kildare (8-2) and Sligo (10-1) before meeting a rejuvenated Kildare team in the final. The result of that match was 6-2 in favour of the girls from St.Joseph's.

Congratulations to each member of the team and to Ms. Flanagan their coach.
